ARCHIVED - British drugs and arms trafficker on Most Wanted list arrested in Marbella
The fugitive was nabbed while out riding an electric bike in the Malaga town

Another notorious criminal on the UK’s Most Wanted Fugitives list, 30-year-old Dean Garforth, has been captured by the Spanish authorities, this time in the popular Malaga hotspot of Marbella. According to the British National Crime Agency (NCA), Garforth has been linked to a powerful crime gang dedicated to trafficking huge quantities of cocaine and marijuana in the northwest of England.
The organisation also specialised in smuggling weapons and finely tuned the operation using the now-defunct EncroChat encrypted communications platform.
The British criminal was living in a Marbella urbanisation among a large expat community in the hopes of blending in with the crowd. Even so, he tried hard to remain under the radar, according to the National Police, rarely leaving his home and mostly keeping to himself.

“He was located when he left his home with sunglasses and a cap on an electric bicycle,” a spokesperson for the Police explained.
When officers tried to make the arrest, Garforth rammed them with his bike, slightly injuring two of the agents. On top of the drugs and arms trafficking charges from the UK, the fugitive will now also be tried in the Spanish courts for resisting arrest and disobedience.
The arrest of this latest fugitive on the Costa del Sol is part of Operation Most Wanted, a project of the British NCA and the NGO Crimestoppers launched in 2006 to identify criminals wanted by the United Kingdom police for serious crimes such as drug trafficking, murder, robbery and arms trafficking.
Police in Spain, working in conjunction with the UK authorities and with the help of the public, have already collared several of these fugitives. During the summer, Britain's most wanted woman, Sarah Panitzke, was extradited to Spain after being captured in Tarragona.
