British mum killed in head-on collision in Spain while her daughter fights for life

Tributes have been pouring in for 42-year-old Sommer Amari who died in Ibiza when she crashed her rental car, while her young daughter Betty is in a serious condition at Son Espases Hospital in Palma.

According to local reports, the driver of a Toyota C-HR lost control near the ITV roundabout on the Santa Gertrudis dual carriageway and plunged into the guardrail. Her car then spun across the road and hit the victim’s Ford Ford head-on. A third car overturned trying to avoid the carnage.

Firefighters had to cut the British expat out of her vehicle and she was pronounced dead at the scene while six-year-old Betty was transferred by ambulance to the intensive care unit at Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza.

She was later airlifted to Mallorca because of the extent of her injuries.

The Guardia Civil are awaiting the results of blood tests on the 40-year-old Norwegian woman who was driving the first car to determine if she was over the limit. She was also injured in the smash and is recuperating at Can Misses Hospital.

A Guardia Civil source said: 'She wasn't breath-tested at the scene but drug and alcohol tests were done at hospital.

“We are still awaiting the results. It would appear she caused the crash by losing control of her vehicle and smashing head-on into the Ford Focus coming the other way driven by the British woman.

“Excess speed could be a factor but the accident is still under investigation.

“A third car was involved, driven by a Spanish woman who crashed after swerving to avoid the other two cars. She was unharmed.”

A friend back in the UK has set up an online fundraiser to help Sommer’s daughter and partner, which has already exceeded 50,000 euros.
