British tourist fighting for life after brutal assault in Spain
The 68-year-old was set upon after a night out in the Spanish holiday hotspot of Fuerteventura

A British holidaymaker is in a coma after suffering a devastating attack in Spain’s Canary Islands, leaving his family facing the heartbreaking reality that he may never walk or talk again.
Marshall Latham, a 68-year-old retired carpenter from Nantwich in Cheshire, was on a getaway in Fuerteventura with his partner, Lynn, when the horrifying assault took place.
According to witnesses, Marshall was walking back to his apartment after an evening out with friends when he was suddenly punched. The unprovoked attack sent him crashing to the ground and he suffered a traumatic brain injury upon impact.
Emergency services rushed him to a hospital in Gran Canaria for urgent treatment. Surgeons removed part of his skull in a desperate bid to relieve pressure on his brain and he has since undergone a tracheotomy while battling pneumonia twice.
His family remains by his side, but doctors have delivered the devastating news that Marshall is unlikely to recover from his life-changing injuries.
The suspect, another British man, was arrested at the airport as he allegedly attempted to board a flight to Glasgow. Police are continuing to investigate the shocking incident.
Although the attack occurred on December 10, details of the assault have just been made public after his family launched a GoFundMe page on his behalf.
The fundraising page gives more details about Marshall’s attack and current prognosis:
“He was walking back to his apartment after a couple of drinks with his friends and was punched out of the blue by someone he did not know.
“Marsh went to the hospital in Puerto del Rosario and this is where he was intubated, ventilated and underwent a CT scan which showed he had two skull fractures and a bleed on his brain, a very serious injury that required immediate surgical intervention.”
According to his distraught family, doctors have recently given the grave news that “he will never walk or talk again”.
