British expat, 23, arrested for attempted murder on the Costa del Sol
The suspect is accused of stabbing another young man outside a Benalmádena nightclub
A 23-year-old British man has been arrested on attempted murder charges after repeatedly stabbing another young man on a busy nightlife street in Benalmádena, Málaga.
On May 16, officers were called to the scene of a brawl in Solymar Square at around 7am. There they found the victim, also 23, lying bleeding on the ground with a tourniquet applied to his right leg to stem the flow. He had clearly been stabbed several times but his attacker had already fled the scene.
The paramedics rushed the injured man to a hospital in Malaga, where he was admitted in a critical condition due to “complete severing of the femoral vein and partial severing of the femoral artery” among other injuries, according to National Police sources.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the perpetrator was English-speaking and officers later came to believe that the feud was related to drug trafficking operations on the Costa del Sol.
After several interviews, Police discovered the name and address of the suspect, a British man with an extensive criminal record who has been living in Benalmádena for some time.
Officers arrested the suspect and searched his home, confiscating as evidence the clothes he had been wearing on the night of the brutal attack.
The young suspect has been remanded in custody without bail and now faces attempted murder charges.
According to official sources, the victim is still in hospital but has stabilised and been moved out of intensive care. However, there’s still a possibility that the man could lose a leg.
