ARCHIVED - Covid update September 19 Murcia: slight increase in cases
Fortunately no new Covid deaths were reported in Murcia on Saturday
There has been a slight increase of Covid cases over the weekend in the Region of Murcia, although more data is needed to determine whether the recent figures represent the beginning of an upward trend or just small fluctuations in the daily numbers.
Sunday’s update reported 98 new cases on Saturday September 18, which is almost double the figure reported on the same day last week, and Friday’s figure was also slightly higher than the previous one at 128.
This small increase has translated into higher 7-day and 14-day incidence rates, with the cumulative incidence rate in the past two weeks rising from 93.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Friday to 94.69 on Sunday. Meanwhile, the 7-day cumulative incidence rate shows a more drastic change; from 38.4 to 44.73 in just two days.
Of the latest 98 cases, 33 were in Murcia, 13 in Lorca, 12 in Cehegín, eight in Cartagena, seven in Molina de Segura, three in Santomera, three in Torre Pacheco and the rest were in different municipalities in the region.
However, the good news is that no further fatalities were reported on Saturday, meaning that the total number of Covid-related deaths last week was eight, two less than the week before.
Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign continues to advance in the region, with 7,400 care home residents expected to receive a third jab in early October.
