The epicentre of the first earthquake was registered in the municipality of La Zubiaat 11.18pm.
The tremor measured a magnitude of 2.6 at its epicentre but was felt with varying degrees of intensity throughout the Vega de Granada comarca.
According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the earthquake was felt with a level III intensity in Alfacar, Alhendín, Vegas del Genil, Armilla, Cájar, Maracena, Chauchina, Churriana de la Vega, Cúllar Vega, Las Gabias, Gójar, Huétor Vega, Monachil and Ogíjares.

Another smaller earthquake was also registered just a few hours after the first in Armilla, with a magnitude of 1.8 on the Richter scale.
Earthquakes are a recurring phenomenon in the province of Granada, and in the rest of Andalucía, as several faults run under the region, including the Granada fault which crosses the capital city.
Several other tremors have also been registered this month in the region including two in Málaga on July 2 and two just off the cost of Almerimar (Almería) on July 8.
In May the Junta de Andalucía increased its natural disasters funding by 3.2 million euros following a series of major tremors in Granada.
