ARCHIVED - Highest daily death rate since September: Andalusia Covid update January 11
While more people have died in the last 24-hour period than has been seen in the last four months, the incidence rate is actually down
14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
Since yesterday, there were 8,510 new Covid infections in Andalucía, while there were 28 deaths, the highest figure since September 3 when there were 29.
New infections
As of today, Tuesday January 11, Andalucía has recorded a total of 8,510 cases of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, the highest figures for a 24-hour period since December 28 (8,747).
By provinces, Málaga has the most reported positives with 1,817, followed by Almería with 1,436, Sevilla with 1,181, Granada with 1,051, Cádiz with 951, Córdoba with 870, Jaén with 769 and Huelva with 435.
Cumulative incidence rate
The promising news is that the 14-day incidence rate is down to 1,609.8 cases per 100,000 population, 37.3 points lower than yesterday.
In this sixth wave of Covid, the rate already fell on January 5 by 16.1 points, although it then rose on the following days. The previous drop was on December 11, when it fell by 1.9 points.
Hospitalisations
There was a rise of 232 hospitalised patients in the last 24 hours to a total of 1,703, the largest daily increase in this sixth wave and the largest since that of January 25 2020 (278), while patients admitted to the ICU rose by five to 229 – 32 more than a week ago.
Deaths
A further 28 people died from coronavirus since yesterday, more than double than figure for this Sunday and Monday when there were 13.
Of the 28 deaths, seven were in Málaga, six in Sevilla, five in Jaén, four in Almería and two each in Córdoba, Granada and Huelva, with Cádiz being the only province with no deaths.
Recovered
Since yesterday, over 6,000 more people have recovered from Covid, taking the total up to 845,894.
Vaccinations
In Andalucía, 82.4% of people over 5 years of age have been fully vaccinated and 86.8% have had their first jab, an impressive increase of 0.1% and 0.2% respectively since yesterday.
