ARCHIVED - Improved lighting system along the beach promenade in Estepona
New rubbish bins and handrails are also going to be included in the plan to modernize the walkway in the coastal municipality of Estepona, Málaga province, Andalusia region
The Town Hall in Estepona, located in the province of Málaga, will be increasing and improving the illumination along the beach promenade, with the installation of 220 LED and vandalism-proof lights in the sections of the promenade where the lighting needs reinforcement.
The council has been engaged in a major project to improve the layout of coastal areas and improve the ambience of the municipality during the last few months, creating new green areas, creating an 11km long coastal walkway, planting out 20,000 bedding plants to brighten up coastal gardens and even inviting residents to put forward their suggestions for ways in which the municipality can adapt its services to perform better in its climate change plan.
Improving the lighting is part of the climate change initiatives, reducing heat and light emissions as well as saving money on electricity and these new lights will not produce any light pollution because they will project the light horizontally, while also avoiding energy waste, as they use low-wattage bulbs. Several streetlights, or lamps, will also be replaced with LED lights.
In addition, around 100 rubbish bins will be placed along the walkway and wooden sections of the promenade which are in poor condition will be replaced or repainted. Any deteriorated metal handrails will also be replaced.
This modernization of the lighting system is part of the municipal plan to update the beach promenade, which is one of the main leisure and recreational spaces for both residents and visitors.
The renovations will be taking place at different points along the walkway, including the sections near hotel Kempinski, Hacienda Beach, Laguna Village and Villas Andaluzas.
Construction on the beach promenade is already underway, with new sections being built in different parts of Estepona, including the section between the IKOS hotel and the Park Beach urbanization.
