Mallorca cleaner arrested for stealing €78,000 from German employer
Hidden cameras installed in the expat’s Santa Eugènia home captured alleged repeated thefts

A 38-year-old domestic worker has been arrested after allegedly stealing jewellery and cash worth €78,000 from the Mallorca home of a German businessman.
Officers from the Pont d’Inca Investigation Unit of the Guardia Civil detained the woman on suspicion of repeated theft at a property in Santa Eugènia.
According to investigators, the cleaner is accused of taking around €75,000 in jewellery along with €3,000 in cash over a period of time, allegedly exploiting the trust placed in her by the homeowner and his family.
The businessman reportedly became suspicious after noticing the disappearance of jewellery, luxury handbags and money from different rooms in the house. Believing the thefts were an inside job, he hired a private detective agency, which installed strategically placed hidden cameras inside the property.
To test his suspicions, the owner placed cash inside handbags and jewellery within view of the cameras. The devices allegedly captured footage of the cleaner opening drawers and bags and removing valuables.
Armed with the recordings and a report from the investigators, the victim filed a formal complaint at the Guardia Civil station in Pont d’Inca. Officers then went to the property and arrested the suspect, who was there at the time.
During a search of her handbag, officers reportedly found several pieces of jewellery, including an earring immediately recognised by the homeowner’s wife. Later, a search of the woman’s home in Palma uncovered documentation linked to the sale of jewellery at gold-buying shops. A significant portion of the stolen items has since been recovered.
After appearing in court, the woman was released without bail. The judge ordered the confiscation of her passport, banned her from leaving Spain and required her to report to court once a month while the investigation continues.
