Man arrested after kissing four year old British boy in Magaluf hotel pool
Romanian man detained on suspicion of sexual assault following stunned reaction from holidaymakers
A 33 year old Romanian man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after allegedly kissing a four year old British boy in the swimming pool of a hotel in Magaluf, on the island of Mallorca. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon at an unnamed hotel in the busy resort area, covered administratively by the Calvià Ayuntamiento. Witnesses say the man approached the child without knowing him or his family, hugged him and then kissed him on the face while other guests watched in shock.
The boy’s mother immediately intervened after seeing what was happening, loudly confronting the man and stopping the contact. Several stunned guests around the pool alerted hotel staff, who quickly called the local Policia Local.
Calvià police officers arrived at the scene, took statements from the boy’s parents and several witnesses, and arrested the man on suspicion of sexual assault. He was later transferred into the custody of the Guardia Civil, who took over the investigation.
The suspect spent the night in a local police cell before being taken to court in Palma on Thursday afternoon. He arrived at the building in handcuffs, wearing the same top, shorts and sandals he had on when he was detained. The hearing was held behind closed doors, and no details have yet been released about whether he was released on bail, ordered to remain free under conditions, or remanded into custody.
The British family is understood to have returned home after the incident. It is not clear whether they cut their holiday short or simply went back on the date they had already planned to leave.
The case has drawn attention from British holidaymakers in the region, with many expressing concern about safeguarding children in busy public spaces such as hotel pools. The Guardia Civil has reminded visitors to report any worrying behaviour to staff or local authorities as soon as possible.
