ARCHIVED - New daily cases more than double from last week: Andalusia Covid update November 19
The Andalusian incidence rate is going up faster and faster, but hospitalisations are remaining even for now
14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
At the beginning of this week, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate of coronavirus in Andalucía was 44.5 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, having climbed slowly since the week before. Now, though, the rate of increase is speeding up, with the incidence rising by over 4 points in each of the last two days.
The cumulative incidence rate for the region now stands at 61.1, raising Andalucía to the medium-risk level. Meanwhile the number of new daily cases has more than doubled in some places.
New infections
In the last 24 hours alone, there were 718 new cases of coronavirus diagnosed in the Andalucía region – 2,888 new cases since this time last week.
To put this into perspective, the number of new cases being reported last week was around 250-300 cases per day. Now we’re seeing over twice that amount, in the space of just 7 days. If we continue in this fashion, we’ll very soon be overrun and in the throes of a new wave of Covid.
Cumulative incidence rate
Yesterday, Thursday November 18, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate of Covid-19 in Andalucía increased by 4.1 points per 100,000 inhabitants. Today it has gone up a further 4.7 points. This leaves the total at 61.1 cases per 100,000 people, while the national figures for Spain are now over 100.
In terms of provinces, Córdoba has the highest incidence rate in Andalucía at 99.6, while Granada has the lowest, with 37.3.
Hospitalisations
Of the 2,888 people who got Covid-19 this week in Andalucía, only 82 had to be admitted to hospital and only seven of those went into the ICU. This is not a drastic rise on previous weeks, indicating that while there are more infections, they may not be as serious as they were before thanks to the vaccines.
Deaths
A further eight people have died of coronavirus since last week, two of which were in the last day.
Recovered
More than a thousand people have gotten better from Covid this week, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from the disease since the beginning of the pandemic to 794,109.
Vaccinations
There are 6,809,284 over-18s in Andalucía who have been fully vaccinated, which is up to 80.4%, while 91.4% of over-12s have had both their jabs.
This week, the autonomous community of Andalucía started offering booster jabs of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines to anyone who had just one shot of the Janssen vaccine. Appointments can be booked at your local health centre.
