ARCHIVED - One dead after train smashes into car on the tracks in Malaga
One person has died after a commuter train collided with a car at a level crossing in Álora
One person has died following a collision between a Cercanías commuter train and a car late on Thursday July 21 at a barrier-free level crossing in the town of Álora in Málaga.
According to the unified emergency service 112 Andalucía, the incident took place minutes before 9.30pm at the level crossing at the access to the A-7077 Vega de Malilla, located at kilometre 158+137 between the municipalities of Pizarra and Álora.
This level crossing does not have any barriers to stop cars when a train is coming.
It seems that a car was on the tracks and was struck by the approaching train, killing the sole occupant of the car. No further details have yet been released.
According to sources from railway management company ADIF, the twenty passengers on the train, none of whom were injured, were transferred by minibus to Álora.
Railway traffic was normalised after 4.30am, once the car had been removed from the track by the fire brigade.
