ARCHIVED - Police break-up mass party in Cuevas del Almanzora where Covid rules were being ignored
The Guardia Civil found more than 300 revellers at a party in the municipality in Almería (Andalusia), most of whom were blatantly ignoring safety measures.
The police have identified the two organisers of a huge illegal party broken up in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Cuevas del Almanzora countryside in Almeria province and reported dozens of partygoers for flouting anti-coronavirus safety measures.
Officers were sent out to check on an event being held at an estate in the Guazamara area, the police force in Almería reported, only to find more than 300 people in attendance, the majority of whom were ignoring restrictions and safety measures. Some were also found to be carrying drugs.
According to the local Spanish press, the estate was supposedly hired for an event with 20 participants but news of the party spread like wildfire on social media and hundreds turned up.
Events of this type are currently under the spotlight as many of the increasing numbers of Covid cases across Spain are believed to be stemming from illegal gatherings and ‘botellones’ or drinking parties.
With the highly contagious Delta variant of the virus now rearing its ugly head, youngsters who have yet to be vaccinated and tend to throw caution to the wind after a few drinks are increasingly testing positive after attending this sort of party.
Covid cases are soaring in the region (see latest data from July 12), driven by sopcial events of this nature.
