Road closures and parking restrictions announced for Orihuela Costa beach handball event
Motorists are being advised to plan ahead as traffic restrictions and parking bans come into force around La Zenia

Drivers in Orihuela Costa are being warned to expect road closures, parking restrictions and traffic disruptions in La Zenia over the coming days as preparations get underway for the Beach Handball Championship.
The sporting event will take place on Friday June 19, Saturday June 20 and Sunday June 21, with installation work starting from 8am on Tuesday June 16.
According to Orihuela Local Police, motorists may experience occasional delays and temporary traffic disruptions before the event begins as crews set up the necessary facilities near Cala Bosque Beach.
Several roads in the area will be affected, including the final section of Avenida de la Playa from Calle del Carmen in both directions, Avenida de las Palmeras and the seafront promenade opposite Cala Bosque Beach.
Calle Colón will also operate temporarily as a two-way street to help maintain access to nearby roads during the event.
Parking will not be permitted on roads affected by the championship or in designated event areas. Access restrictions will also be in place, with entry limited to authorised vehicles, emergency services, event personnel and people with reduced mobility.
Residents and visitors should also be aware that dismantling work will continue after the championship finishes, with restrictions potentially remaining in place until Tuesday June 23.
Orihuela Local Police are advising people to allow extra time for journeys and pay close attention to temporary traffic signs throughout the area.
"Plan your journeys in advance, respect the temporary signage, and follow the officers' instructions at all times. The goal is for this important sporting event to take place in complete safety," they said in a statement.
Anyone planning to visit La Zenia beach, the seafront area or nearby businesses over the next week is advised to check access routes before travelling.
