Several minors injured by fairground ride in Málaga
Authorities investigate bumper car attraction after small metal particles cause eye injuries

The first case was reported on Saturday August 9, when a young visitor woke with a red eye. A foreign object was removed at the local health centre. In the following days, more children sought treatment, with some diagnosed with corneal ulcers and advised that they might need specialist follow-up at a hospital if symptoms persisted.
According to the Ayuntamiento de Málaga, the injuries appear to have been caused by small metallic particles, likely from the bumper car ride installed for this year´s fair. The local council stressed that the owner had submitted all necessary safety documentation before the attraction was approved, and the ride is covered by a current civil liability insurance policy. The council added that it is available to help anyone affected to file a personal claim against the owner or their insurer.
The Guardia Civil confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, led by the Policía Judicial de Antequera. A complaint has been filed, and authorities are working to determine exactly how the particles ended up causing injuries.
The fairground operator responsible for the ride maintains that all legal requirements were met and says they acted immediately when informed of the incidents. “We have always complied with the safety regulations and are fully cooperating with the Guardia Civil,” the operator said.
This unusual incident has caused concern among families in the municipality, highlighting how even minor faults at events can have serious consequences. The Ayuntamiento de Málaga continues to monitor the situation closely, offering guidance and support to those affected.
