ARCHIVED - Special activities planned at the Dolmens of Antequera this weekend
The Andalusian Ministry of Culture will be hosting events in honour of the International Day for Monuments and Sites at the archaeological site in Antequera, Málaga
Málaga will honour the International Day for Monuments and Sites this weekend with special activities at the Dolmens of Antequera, a UNESCO World Heritage site just outside the town of Antequera in the northern part of the province.
There will be thematic visits to the Menga Dolmen with special sound and visual effects and narratives to introduce visitors to the site’s fascinating past, and ritual dances and offerings to ‘The Sacred Mountain’ will be performed outside.
Activities will be running from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm on Saturday (17 April) and from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm on Sunday (18 April). Entry is free, and there is no need to book in advance.
18 April is the International Day for Monuments and Sites, a day aiming at raising awareness of the diversity of cultural heritage and its vulnerability established by ICOMOS (the International Council on Monuments and Sites) in 1982. Every year, the council sets a special theme for the events held to honour the date, and this year it is ‘Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures’.
