Kind gestures of compassion come in all shapes and sizes, and in the case of a homeless woman in Sevilla, it came in the form of a trolley full of shopping worth 240 euros.

The destitute woman was reportedly sitting at the doors of a Lidl store in Montequinto, in the Sevillian town of Dos Hermanas, asking customers to spare a little something to help out.

To her surprise, a man approached her before entering the supermarket and asked her what she needed, and she replied all she needed was some chicken thighs and cooking oil.

Instead, the stranger asked the 40-year-old woman to accompany him – with a trolley she was invited to fill up.

A cashier who served the good Samaritan and homeless woman, Cristina Ortega, was so impressed with the act of goodwill, that she shared the story on social media, uploading a photograph of the receipt.

The cashier described the "woman of limited means" as a "good person who always helps customers", and explained that the stranger simply "disappeared" without identifying himself after his "act of greatness", and the homeless woman was unable to express her true gratitude.

"I have not experienced anything like this in the 17 years that I have been working in this profession," wrote Cristina on Facebook, adding: "I am delighted to know that, despite all the bad news, there are still good people out there. I couldn't believe it was true, I was as happy as if it had been done to me. This woman really needs the help, it's amazing."
