Tenerife murder suspects to face judge today as investigation into British tourist's death continues
Three men arrested in connection with the fatal attack on an 88-year-old British man in Los Cristianos are due in court on June 25
The three men detained in connection with the death of a British tourist in Los Cristianos are expected to appear before a judge today, Thursday June 25, as the case takes its next significant step through the Spanish judicial system. The Policía Nacional confirmed the court appearance is scheduled following the arrests made earlier this week. The case began on the evening of Tuesday June 17, when an 88-year-old British man was attacked while walking near the Victoria Court 2 holiday complex in Los Cristianos with his 79-year-old wife. During what appears to have been a robbery, a struggle took place and the man fell heavily to the ground, suffering serious injuries. Emergency services attended the scene and he was taken to hospital, where he remained in a critical condition for several days before sadly passing away.
The victim had been in Tenerife to celebrate his birthday with his wife when the attack occurred. He was known to friends and family as Ray.
Three suspects were subsequently arrested by the Policía Nacional, with authorities confirming at the time that the investigation was progressing and that the men would face the judicial process.
Investigators have not yet disclosed the specific charges the suspects may face, nor have they indicated whether further arrests are expected. Authorities have urged the public not to speculate while judicial proceedings are ongoing, and have said further details are likely to emerge once the court appearance has taken place.
The case has attracted widespread attention both in the Canary Islands and in the UK, and has prompted considerable concern among residents and visitors in Los Cristianos, one of Tenerife's busiest and most popular tourist destinations. The vulnerability of elderly travellers and the broader question of safety in busy resort areas have both been raised in the wake of the incident.
