Traditional Christmas Market in Águilas delights visitors with handmade treasures
The Plaza de España came alive this weekend with festive cheer and local craftsmanship
The annual traditional Christmas market in Águilas, organised by the Asociación Tradición y Folclore de Águilas in collaboration with the Department of Culture, brought festive cheer to Plaza de España yesterday, Sunday December 15.
Hundreds of visitors browsed the market’s diverse stalls, which featured an array of handmade goods and locally produced food items. From cheeses, sausages and traditional sweets to ornaments, costume jewellery and decorative crafts, the market offered something for everyone looking for unique Christmas gifts or seasonal treats.
Félix Cano, the market’s promoter, highlighted its focus on quality and authenticity. “The aim is to bring to Águilas the most representative artisans of the region who produce on a small scale and with very high-quality parameters,” he explained.
The event not only showcased the rich craftsmanship of the region but also supported small-scale producers, making it a must-visit for locals and tourists alike during the holiday season.
Also in the Plaza de España this weekend, the ‘Cuadrillas’ musical groups held their XIX Encuentro de Cuadrillas en la Navidad, organised by the Cuadrilla de la Marina de Cope and the Town Hall’s Department of Culture.
The meeting brought together the Cuadrillas of El Raiguero de Totana, Aledo, Cuesta de Gos and La Marina de Cope, who aroused the applause of all passersby with their dances and songs in the parade they performed before the Sung Mass in the Parish Church of San José.
At the end of the mass, the four groups went to the stage of the Glorieta, where they received a plaque to thank them for their visit and to thank them for their participation.
