ARCHIVED - Under 2,000 Covid cases reported over the weekend in Andalusia: Covid update August 16
9 further Covid-related deaths were also reported across Andalucía, in Cádiz, Málaga and Jaén
The latest Covid update in Andalucía, which combines data from August 14 and 15, reports 1,768 new cases in the past 48 hours, along with nine further fatalities.
This latest figure is less than half the number of new cases reported three weeks ago on July 26, when 4,673 new positive diagnoses were reported in 48 hours.
By province, Sevilla reported the highest number of cases with 584, followed by Málaga (301), Cádiz (205), Huelva (202), Jaén (171), Almería (125), Córdoba (118) and Granada (62).
Fatalities: the total number of Covid-related deaths in the region since the start of the pandemic is 10,570, including the 9 deaths reported since the latest update on Friday, August 13. Cádiz and Málaga both recorded four deaths while the province of Jáen reported one fatality.
Recoveries: in total 659,726 people have fully recovered from the virus in Andalucía, including the 3,350 people who have been given the all-clear in the past 48 hours.
Hospitalizations: there are currently 1,329 Covid patients in Andalucía’s hospitals, of whom 247 are in serious condition in intensive care units. Málaga is the province with the highest number of hospitalizations with 405 patients (74 in ICU).
Incidence rate: the latest cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days is 457.63, which means that the rate in Andalucía is very similar to the national average, which was 462.23 on August 13.
However, other regions, such as the neighbouring Region of Murcia (419.26) or the Comunidad Valenciana (387.06) have much fewer cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
