1.8 million for road upgrades around the Mar Menor
Major roadworks are getting underway in La Manga and San Pedro del Pinatar
The Region of Murcia is investing heavily in road improvements around the Mar Menor, focusing on key routes in La Manga and San Pedro del Pinatar, aiming to enhance safety, accessibility and comfort for locals and tourists alike.
La Manga expressway gets 1.3-million-euro facelift
The La Manga RM-12 road is undergoing significant upgrades, with 1.3 million euros allocated to resurfacing 8.3 kilometres of road. The works, which started in September, are set to finish before the end of December. The project covers stretches between the San Ginés de la Jara and La Unión exits, as well as sections near Los Belones.
Francisco Carrillo, Director General of Roads, praised the initiative as vital for improving one of the Region’s busiest tourist routes. The road not only connects to major attractions like Calblanque Regional Park but also links towns such as Los Belones and Playa Honda to the AP-7 motorway.
Improvements include new road surfacing, better barriers and updated signage. Bridge joints are also being replaced, ensuring the expressway remains resilient against wear and weather.
Urban revamp in San Pedro del Pinatar
Meanwhile, in San Pedro del Pinatar, 500,000 euros are being invested to upgrade a section of Avenida Doctor Artero Guirao, between Calle Goya and Avenida del Puerto. Funded under the 2024-25 Works and Services Plan, this project will improve road surfaces, pedestrian areas and cycling infrastructure.
Old pavements will be replaced with modern concrete pavers, while new tactile paving will enhance accessibility. A cycle lane is being added, and green spaces will be refreshed with large pines and other trees.
Marcos Ortuño, Councillor for the Presidency, highlighted the importance of this collaboration between the regional and local governments to meet community needs. He emphasised that these improvements would increase comfort and safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.
