ARCHIVED - Andalusia extends all restrictions for another two weeks
The Andalucía government is also imposing new testing rules in care homes for the elderly
Following the regional government’s meeting on Wednesday (August 18), the authorities have decided to maintain the current coronavirus restrictions in the region.
Although the regional incidence rate has been slowly declining over the past two weeks, the Committee of experts has recommended maintaining the measures, with the exception of increasing the maximum number of customers per table from four to six inside bars and restaurants.
The selective curfews in municipalities with high incidence rates, maximum occupancy in the hospitality sector and other venues and the closure of beaches at night will all remain in place until further notice.
And, in addition, the government has also put a plan in action to increase anti-Covid measures in care homes after a rise in cases amongst staff and residents in different Spanish provinces, including in Alicante.
Covid tests will be mandatory for all staff in care homes; every two weeks for fully vaccinated staff members and twice a week for unvaccinated workers. Residents will also need to take a test 72 hours before being readmitted into the care home, even if they have had both jabs.
Residents who have been in contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus will have to be tested on the day of the notification, four days after and eight days after, and won’t be allowed visitors or trips outside of the residency until they are given the all-clear. The same testing rules apply to staff who have been in contact with a positive case.
All of these new measures will come into effect at midnight on Thursday, August 19, and the Committee will meet again in two weeks to discuss the pandemic’s evolution and determine the next steps for Andalucía.
