ARCHIVED - Andalusia starts administering covid vaccinations to those in their 70s
So far, 1,521,417 patients in Andalusia have had at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, and 522,939 have received two doses.
Andalusia has started to vaccinate the general population in the 70-79 age group against coronavirus this week, the regional government has reported.
As many provinces have now finished vaccinating the over 80s and others are well on their way to completing their first course, the health service has started to contact those born in 1942 and 1943 with their appointments and will be continuing to vaccinate in descending order by age.
The group consists of 677,542 members of the public, who will receive vaccinesfrom Pfizer or Moderna.
At the same time, vulnerable and very high-risk groups are also being contacted with their appointments.
Andalusia received delivery of 184,860 doses of Pfizer vaccine on Monday, along with 183,200 doses of AstraZeneca which will be administered to patients aged between 56 and 65, in descending age order whom the health services started vaccinating last week.
The health service has reiterated that the public should wait for an appointment in order to be vaccinated and NOT go to their health centre without an appointment. Last week thousands of people were hoaxed by pranksters in Seville into going along to a vaccination point without a prior appointment; the pranksters will face criminal charges for their "joke".
