Bomb scare on flight from UK to Lanzarote sparks major security operation
A handwritten note prompted emergency protocols, but the threat turned out to be a false alarm

According to authorities, the crew quickly followed safety protocols and alerted emergency services, triggering a full-scale response. The plane was directed to a remote area of the airport upon arrival, where it was isolated from other flights. Explosive ordnance disposal specialists (TEDAX) were dispatched, along with Guardia Civil officers from the Fiscal and Border Section, Citizen Security units and the Guardia Civil's Investigation Group.
Following a thorough search of the plane and its luggage, no explosives were found, and the alert was deemed a false alarm. Despite the heightened security measures, the airport remained fully operational throughout the incident, with no other flights affected.
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation to determine the origin of the note and whether the warning was a malicious threat or an inappropriate prank.
The air traffic controllers official social media account shared an update, stating, “We have returned to normal at the airport of Lanzarote, where a plane landed with a bomb warning that turned out to be false. The plane was guided, in the presence of firefighters, to a siding where passengers had to identify their luggage. Landing and take-off operations have been temporarily halted, resulting in some delays.”
While the scare caused some temporary disruption, it appears to have been handled swiftly and without any serious consequences, ensuring the safety of all passengers involved.
