ARCHIVED - Cumulative incidence rate in Andalusia surpasses 500; Covid update July 26
Four provinces in Andalucía now have higher incidence rates than the national average: Málaga, Cádiz, Córdoba and Huelva
Monday’s Covid update (July 26) in the region of Andalucía reports 4,673 new cases in the past 48 hours, which is around 500 more than the 4,103 cases reported in the update for last Sunday and Monday (July 18 and 19).
By province, Málaga reported 1,312 new cases, followed by Sevilla (860), Cádiz (767), Granada (396), Jaén (346), Almería (342), Córdoba (327) and Huelva (323).
The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days has now surpassed 500, after rising for 25 consecutive days. The latest figure, reported on July 26, is 513; a 114 point rise in just a week.
Although the national incidence rate is higher (677, on July 23) than the average in Andalusia, there are several provinces whose incidents rates surpass the average in Spain: Málaga (811), Cádiz (565), Córdoba (519) and Huelva (514).
Vaccines: 126,440 doses have been administered since the previous report, July 23, and 55.64 per cent of the population has now been fully immunized.
Fatalities: one further Covid-related death has been reported in the past 48 hours, in the province of Córdoba, bringing the total number of fatalities caused by Covid in Andalucía to 10,307.
Hospitalizations: as of Monday, July 26, there are 972 people hospitalized with coronavirus in the region, of whom 177 are in ICU.
Recoveries: since the previous update 48 hours ago, 1,537 people have been given the all-clear from the virus.
Due to the increasing number of cases in Andalucía, the regional government proposed stricter anti-Covid measures last week in an attempt to reduce the rate of transmission, but some local councils have refused to comply with the request, with several coastal municipalities in Cádiz refusing to close their beaches at night.
