ARCHIVED - Over 1,000 Covid patients in Andalusia hospitals: Covid update July 27
16 further Covid-related deaths reported in the latest update; the highest figure yet this month in Andalusia
Andalusia reports a steady increase in daily cases, with 4,754 confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, meaning that the fifth wave is showing no signs of slowing down.
The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days has also risen for the 26th day in a row, and now stands at 536.1; 23.3 points higher than the previous figure reported on July 26 (509.32).
However, the incidence rate in Andalusi is still lower than the national average (700.1) and is the 13th highest in Spain, after regions like Catalunya (1,145.23), Navarra (1,001.52) and the Balearics (835.65).
Hospitalisations: The number of Covid patients in the region’s hospitals has now reached 1,125, with 269 new hospital admissions in the past 24 hours. These rising numbers are ringing alarm bells for health care workers and the regional government has recently proposed even stricter measures to slow the spread of coronavirus in Andalusia.
Recoveries: 1,705 people have recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours.
Fatalities: The latest update reported the largest number of daily deaths so far in July; with 16 further fatalities in Granada (7), Málaga (6), Sevilla (1), Cádiz (1) and Jaén (1).
Vaccines: As of July 27, 73.73 per cent of the population (over the age of 12) has now received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine and the region is continuing to speed ahead with its vaccination campaign, with 16 to 19-year-olds set to start being vaccinated this week.
