ARCHIVED - Ukrainian truck driver injured in Sevilla when protesters stoned his vehicle
The drivers swerved off the road and crashed through the guardrail in the Andalucía municipality of Écija
A Ukrainian truck driver was treated in a Seville hospital for injuries sustained when protesters threw a stone at his vehicle, smashing the windscreen and hitting him in the face.
According to the National Police, the Polish-licensed truck was travelling on the A-4 motorway in the municipality of Écija at 12:15am on Wednesday March 23 when someone threw the missile from the adjoining service road. When the driver was struck, he lost control of the vehicle and swerved off the road, colliding with the guardrail.
The driver and his passenger were treated for minor injuries and have both been released from hospital; they have since given their statements at the local Écija Police Station, although no arrests have yet been made.

Several violent clashes have erupted in recent days since a national transport strike was called by the Platform for the Defence of the Freight Transport Sector last Monday. Picketers choosing not to work have been blocking service roads and harassing truck drivers not partaking in the industrial action, and one protestor was actually shot in Madrid last week during a scuffle.
A second incident occurred on March 23, whereby a bus travelling on the Huleva-Madrid line was also stoned at 2:05am on the same stretch of motorway, although no damage was caused and the coach did not have to interrupt its journey.
