A man was filmed driving through the streets of San Javier on Saturday February 15 with a donkey chained to a moving cart. The video, recorded by concerned onlookers, shows the animal being pulled by the car, while itself pulling a cart.
Local police in San Javier responded to the incident after being alerted to the situation. The donkey was tied to the cart with an iron chain, raising concerns about its treatment. The Civil Guard's Nature Protection Service (Seprona) has launched an investigation to determine whether the incident could constitute a crime of animal abuse. Authorities are also considering whether the driver violated any article of the Animal Welfare Law and may face criminal liability.
In addition, the individual has been charged with a crime against road safety. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the condition of the donkey or potential legal consequences for the driver. The investigation remains ongoing.
