ARCHIVED - Highest number of infections since September: Andalusia Covid update November 5
The Andalucía region registered its highest number of infections since September, while the incidence rate rises to 34.6
On the same day that Spain has reached more than 50 cases per 100,000 people and moved back into the medium-risk category, Andalucía recorded a total of 422 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours on Friday November 5, the highest figure since September 25 when there were 425 new infections. This figure is significantly higher than the 296 cases recorded the day before and the 338 new daily infections from this time last week.
New infections
Drilling down into the week’s statistics, the 422 cases on Friday follow 296 on Thursday, 169 on Wednesday, 190 on Tuesday, 274 on Monday and Sunday, 261 on Saturday and 338 last Friday.
On this day with such worryingly high stats, Málaga was the province with the most new cases at 121, although sales of facemasks are said to have fallen dramatically in the province due to relaxed Covid restrictions. This was followed by Seville with 69, Huelva with 48, Almería with 47, Cádiz with 47, Jaén with 38, Granada with 27 and finally Córdoba with 25.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate in Andalucía has risen 1.7 points in the last day and stands at 34.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up from 33.9 points a week ago last Friday.
Hospitalisations
Hospitalisations are also creeping up, with 71 people admitted into health centres with Covid over the last week. This is in comparison with just 43 people in the last week-to-week period. ICU admissions have doubled in this weekly period from two to four. The total number of people in hospital for Covid-19 in Andalucía now stands at 169.
Deaths
Five more deaths from coronavirus were reported in the region today, two more than yesterday. Three were in Málaga and there was one each in Almería and Jaén.
Vaccinations
As of this week, a full 80.1% of the Andalusian population over 18 (6,782,023 people) have now been double jabbed, up 0.2% from last week. When taking into account over 12s, this figure rises to 91%.
