ARCHIVED - Incidence rate falls for third day in a row: Andalusia Covid update January 13
The 14-day cumulative rate is dropping faster and faster as the week goes on
14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
Although the number of new cases remains roughly the same and the number of deaths are actually increasing, there are hopes that the increasing rate at which the cumulative incidence is dropping in the region of Andalucía indicates that infection numbers, hospitalisations and fatalities will all follow suit next week.
New infections
In the last day, 11,177 new cases were recorded in Andalucía, a fraction more than yesterday when there were 11,565.
According to data from the Regional Ministry of Health, it was in the province of Sevilla where the most cases were reported on this last day, with 1,969; followed by Granada with 1,748; Almería with 1,546; Málaga with 1,526; Jaén with 1,418; Cádiz with 1,246; Huelva with 888; and Córdoba with 836.
Cumulative incidence rate
The incidence rate of Covid-19 in Andalucía has fallen this Thursday for the third day in a row, and now stands at 1,488.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last fourteen days, whereas yesterday it was at 1,560.2.
Hospitalisations
The number of people hospitalised with coronavirus in Andalucía has increased by seven to 1,731, of whom 226 are in the ICU, one less than yesterday, Wednesday January 12.
By provinces, Almería recorded 113 hospitalisations, of which 26 are in the ICU; Cádiz 206 hospitalisations, of which 21 are in the ICU; Córdoba 192, of which 30 are in the ICU; Granada 273, of which 29 are in the ICU; Huelva 62, of which eight are in the ICU; Jaén 117, of which 12 are in the ICU; Málaga 393, of which 54 are in the ICU; and Sevilla 375, of which 46 are in the ICU.
Deaths
Sadly, there were 28 more fatalities from coronavirus in the region in the last 24 hours, eight in the province of Sevilla, six in Málaga, five in Granada, four in Jaén, two in Córdoba and another two in Huelva, and one in Almería.
The number of deaths has increased significantly in the last three days, with 28 on Tuesday and 30 on Wednesday, the highest number of deaths in a single day in the last four months.
Recovered
The total number of cases in Andalucía since the start of the pandemic is 1,099,532, and the number of cured cases 870,941, of which 8,715 are from the last day.
Vaccinations
The vaccination programme continues at full tilt, with 87.3% of the population over the age of 5 in Andalucía – a total of 7,386,863 people – having received at least one coronavirus shot. That’s more than 20,000 people in the last day alone, and this rate of vaccination seems to be working to bring the cumulative incidence rate down.
