ARCHIVED - Malaga police shut down festival breaking anti-Covid rules
The large party in Andalucía has caused outrage on social media
Officers shut down a nightclub in Torremolinos (Málaga) in the early hours of Sunday morning (August 22) after reports that hundreds of people were breaking Covid restrictions, including social distancing, maximum occupancy and mask rules.
The party was part of the Matrix Sun Festival, which started on Monday, August 16, and was due to end on Sunday night, August 22, although the police cancelled Sunday’s party after the chaos on Saturday night.
Police officers shut down the event with no major incidents, just a few disciplinary actions for participants who refused to leave or “caused problems”.
Social media has been flooded with images and videos of the event, which was attended by hundreds of people.

The videos show young people not wearing masks and clearly not respecting social distancing rules as the venue was packed to the brim, despite the occupancy restrictions in place in the Andalucía region.
People have criticised both the event’s organisers and the attendants, as well as questioning why the local police force took so long to act when their headquarters are just two streets away from the night club.
